On March 29, 1919, the shouts and cries of “Long live Korean independence!” reverberated throughout the Gupo marketplace. An earnest shout for national independence and a wave of Taegeukgi quickly covered the Gupo market. Designated to commemorate the national independence movement that took place in the Gupo Marketplace, Gupo Manse Street extends about 600m from Gupo Station to the entrance of Gupo Market.
On this street, where the national independence movement took place over 100 years ago and Gupo Bank and Gupo Station were established, the scene at the time is vividly reproduced with murals, photo frames, nameplates of patriotic martyrs, and Taegeukgi. Gupo Manse Street, where peace settled after a sorrowful time passed, was recreated into a cultural art contents reflecting on the history of Buk-gu and embracing both art and culture.
